I have one of the first Dalton's that were bred in Thompson Falls. I was living in Missoula at the time and the breeder was selling the puppies at Best Buy. We saw and really liked the mother, Kylie, and to our surprise the breeder just gave her to us. She is currently around 7 years old and is just a great dog. She wasn't socialized much being raised on a farm and still isn't great around new dogs, but she is good with our kids and other dog, a German Shepard named Jake. I think she is close to the perfect dog with great energy, but willing to just hang out and very low maintenance. When these dogs pass away, I would seriously considering traveling back to Montana to get another...

Your story reminds me that animals are unique as are humans. I still remember my first cat Harvey, and have always been slightly disappointed that every other cat I ever owned was not like dear old Harvey. Consolations on your loss.

My heart is with you on Oscar and I wish you peace of mind and heart. Last week we had to put my 22 year old Maltese dog to sleep. She has seizures and was in kidney failure. The Vet and his two assistance cried along with me. They all said they had never seen a dog that was so old. Sasha had been my best friend for many years. They are family, aren't they? I asked God to send her to my deceased brother so they can keep each other company. Goofy, huh?

Take care....

I am also thinking of becoming a full-time vegetarian.

Perhaps you think it is because I love animals.

On the contrary, it's because I hate plants.

(Okay, so it's a corny joke.)

As a chocoholic, I am amazed that I have never had that experience. I actually think that would be great, if everyone's poop smelled like chocolate...it would make those normally embarrassing, unpleasant uses of a public bathroom much more pleasant for those around the pooper.

Congrats on your anniversary and thank you for your service in the Navy!

Yes, I have to decide whether to cough up $600 to have two large fatty lipomas removed from Maggie. So far they are not bothering her, but the vet says that they will if they continue to grow. She's 10, and in fine health otherwise. But how can I justify $600??? So difficult.

xpressoutloud- don't Guinea Pigs only live about 2 years?

And though it is a strange post to comment for some people don't give their pets a second thought, I believe that animals can become a part of a family. I've had dogs most of my life and they have lived to be 10 of 14, that's alot for a pet and I found myself missing all when they were gone.

Yesterday we had one of our guinea pigs die. We have no idea what happened one minute he was fine eating a carrot and two hours later he was dead. We had only had him for 2 years but he is still missed.

Sorry about your cat. But I believe you did the right thing.

I just heard from a person who lives just 5 miles from a TV station transmitter. He cannot receive a signal because he lives in a valley. This was no problem with analog. The station is a powerful one and folks in the past who lived close to them had to install filters to keep the signal from bleeding over on all channels.

I'm beginning to think that just turning the TV off is the best option. Those folks make a ton of money off advertising anyway. Why should we have to pay to see tv that is already heavily subsidized by advertisers?

I see some Today blogs with an Entrecard and thought you'd be putting one back. I have your link on my blogroll, but usually use my Entrecard tool bar to visit blogs so don't come by here near as often. I'm sure I'm not the only one.

Yeah there are just some things you can't give up. I didn't know ice cream came in five gallons. It is a vicious cycle because when you exercise you end up hungrier which just seems to defeat the purpose. It is crazy but working out resulted in me gaining instead of losing. Joint Juice? Sounds interesting. Does it give you a buzz? Okay I couldn't resist with that name. Well I wish you luck.

Re: Your note on your puppy

" Mostly our puppy looks like a German Shorthair Pointer, only her coloring is black and white instead of the liver and white coloring of the German Shorthair. "

Actually, it is only in the United States and through the AKC that black and white colouring is not correct.

In the UK and in Europe where the GSP was developed, black and white colouring is very much accepted and is included in the British Kennel Club standard of the German Shorthair Pointer.

I love artichokes! Have you tried any of the veggie burgers? They aren't too bad. I haven't had any other veggie meat replacement products, but the burgers, with a slice of cheese on them, are pretty good. that might help the summer food cravings.

I've been somewhat absent from my blog this week too, like you say, it's that time of year where other things take over!

I'm 31 and I live to text and text to live! I think the politeness or rudeness of texting are relative to where you are and whom you're with.

If you're eating Christmas dinner at Grandma's house with the family, turn the phone off or silence it for the hour you're at the table. It won't kill you; I promise.

If you're eating out at a quiet, upscale, five-star restaurant, apply the same rules as at Christmas dinner.

If you're eating out at Big Boy's or McD's with your friend and they're not offended by your use of the phone, go ahead and use it.

I’m 31 and I live to text and text to live! I think the politeness or rudeness of texting are relative to where you are and whom you’re with.

If you’re eating Christmas dinner at Grandma’s house with the family, turn the phone off or silence it for the hour you’re at the table. It won’t kill you; I promise.

If you’re eating out at a quiet, upscale, five-star restaurant, apply the same rules as at Christmas dinner.

If you’re eating out at Big Boy’s or McD’s with your friend and they’re not offended by your use of the phone, go ahead and use it.

Congratulations hope to be able to see those numbers on my blog someday. I’m new to the site and at this blogging thing. Love writing and love reading. I’ve taken a look around the “block” and have found some interesting stuff. But you are right, no one could even begin to imagine the numbers of bloggers out there. I for one will try and keep things interesting, like it seems you have, and hope that my ideas and thoughts will be read and even commented on. Here’s to another year of writing and Xpressing!

Surely just cutting down yourmeat rather than cuttign out your meat is a better option. A little of everything is good.

People who let their children run around in ANY store make me nuts! My mom would have cracked me on the butt and made me sit in the car if I acted like that.

Can I add, open mouth chewing..on television or in person....

I was glad to read your comment about the dogs liking the smell of the deer repellent...I thought it was just our dogs.

I like the deer and try to plant deer resistant stuff, like daffodils instead of tulips. We tried hanging the CDs on our blueberry bushes with out much luck and it does look strange.

I had some luck near the vegetable garden sprinkling old bottles of perfume and aftershave around the perimeter, but hanging old socks on the fence didn't do much.

Actually, the rabbits are more of a problem than the deer, expecially because they can squezze through such small spaces.
