Springing into Love

Published by dougkueffler at 2:05 pm under Boomer Generation Stuff, Humor too Edit This

Spring arrives, and a young man’s thoughts turn to LOVE!

love-rock-love.jpgWhen I was young, it was pretty much a given; every springtime I would fall in love. Most of these “loves” were only experienced from afar, the fantasies of a teenager, you know?

One year in high school I fell for the head cheerleader. Reason? She sat at my table in study hall and it was the only times I ever saw her up close and she was a beauty. Our conversations never went beyond “hi” and that had to be enough for me. I was not among the IN crowd in high school, as you may have guessed.

I fell in love every springtime for many years. I even got married once in early springtime. That pretty much meant that my springtimes of falling in love would henceforth be only fantasies….wait a minute…nothing new about that!

College life was full of springtime romances. One year my romances overlapped (two girls), but luckily for me, they became great friends and the three of us took a road trip to Reno together. I haven’t had any contact with Debbie or Marsha for nearly FORTY years, but memories like that seem to remain forever.

I still LOVE the scent of springtime here in the Rockies. After a hard winter we really appreciate the renewal that spring brings. In our brains, the sense of smell is closely associated with the memory area, so when I smell springtime in the air, it always triggers wonderful memories of springtime love.
