My First Time: To Have a Colonoscopy
My First Time to Have a Colonoscopy will not be my last.
As unpleasant as the “preparations” were, the exam itself is not something I remember. Oh, I tried to stay awake and WATCH the proceedings on the small screen that was provided, but I don’t recall ANYTHING!
I ”submitted” to a colonoscopy for multiple reasons: First, I was at the age that the exam is recommended for all; second, my spouse and adult sisters all pushed me to have the exam; and third, my father had undergone colon cancer surgery the previous year. It was time to check my colon. (The National Cancer Institute has a web page for colorectal cancer information. Click on the logo to open their page.)
My results were okay; that is, they found and removed three small “polyps” that were benign. That was five years ago. I am scheduled for another test a couple of months from now.
Yes, the “preparations” for a colonoscopy are not pleasant; downright nasty, in fact, and not something anybody will forget–ever. Strong laxative…lots of liquid…I won’t even discuss it with people. But the process definitely “CLEARS” you out.
Of course, there is nothing funny about colon cancer, and there is simply no better preventative procedure than the colonoscopy. If you are fifty years old and haven’t been checked; well, I would strongly recommend you have the procedure.

My Dad had one last month. i WENT WITH HIM TO WAIT AND COLLECT HIM. iT WASN’T AS BAD AS HE HAD EXPECTED AND THE RESULTS CAME OUT CLEAN..I am sorry the second one wasn’t as nice for you. Buzzed the article for you too..
