My First Time: To Get STINKIN Drunk!
My First Time to get Stinkin’ Drunk.
Man oh man, do I ever remember that night!
I was in the Navy by the time I experienced my first real stinkin’ drunk. (Yes, I was pretty much a “straight arrow nerd” in high school.) I had two really good friends at that time; we were stationed together at a little auxiliary air field in Texas called Chase Field, at Beeville, Texas. The special stinkin’ drunk occasion was my 20th birthday.
Beeville was about 13,000 people then: 1967. Mostly what I recall about Beeville and those two years of my life was the HEAT! Usually over 100 during summer days, and still about 90 degrees throughout the night.
Back to my birthday. One of my friends, name of Griffin, was married and lived in housing on the base with his wife. My other friend, Terry, and I roomed together in the Barracks. I say we roomed together, but there were two sets of bunkbeds in the room, with big metal frames and thin little gray and white striped mattresses.
Back to my birthday. Griffin and Terry and I got together at Griff’s house and had cake and ice cream. My birthday present was a bottle of Cutty Sark, a scotch whiskey that I decided was “cool,” because cool people drank scotch. On the rocks of course. How else would a cool person drink scotch? I drank the bottle (yes…the BOTTLE…) and got stinkin’ drunk. Unfortunately, I also ate a LOT of ice cream at the same time. I have a photo somewhere of my pimply-faced, stinkin’ drunk self, trying to hold up my head so I can breathe in between BARFS!
I wish I could say I learned my lesson that night.

LOL! You should post that picture!
