Yellowjacket Trap on Shepherd Hook
I found a great way to hang my yellowjacket traps and the best part is that they are easily moved to alternate locations.
We recently hung a yellowjacket trap from a beam that over our back deck. Why did we have so many yellowjackets this year? We had swarms of yellowjackets! I would say we had ten times the number that we have EVER seen before! Not only were there ten “bees” inside the trap, there were just as many buzzing around trying to get in!
The fact is, we were ATTRACTING them to our deck with the trap! The solution was to move the trap out near the border of our back yard. Wow! Suddenly, we have no more yellowjackets on the deck! We have another trap out front and this is located near the corner of the house, AWAY from the front door and the front flower bed.
The shepherd hook you see in the photo (click to enlarge) is a great tool. We found that when the trap was not attracting yellowjackets we just needed to try a different spot…about twenty feet away…and the “bees” came back.
Last summer, I was stung on the hand and wrist three times in a one-week time period. My hand was swollen worse than EVER and my arm hurt from the elbow down. I’ve been told that the effect of bee and yellowjacket stings can be cumulative, with the effects becoming worse each time you are stung. Eventually, I feared that I might develop serious symptoms or even go into shock. This summer, thanks to the yellowjacket traps, I have NO stings!

I hate bugs too (all of them hahahaha) That’s the only thing I hate about summer though. Your trap is really a good idea. I love staying outdoors too, grilling, but because of bugs I’d rather stay inside blogging and just come out when the food is ready to eat.
This is a nice blog. I dropped my card. See ya around.
