Today’s Code (text) Talkers

paw.jpgToday’s Code (text) Talkers

Reading this generation’s text messaging or instant messaging is somewhat akin to interpreting the Navaho Code Talkers of World War II.

Well, maybe not so similar, but I think just as difficult to understand.

Many of us “older” folks are even familiar with some of today’s most common abbreviations, but the younger generation always comes up with new ones to keep us “older” folks in the dark. Here are some common abbreviated text messages along with some for us OLDER folks, like the gal in the picture, who is PAW (see waayyy below):

BBL = be back later (Also see “BBL” below)
BRB = be right back
BTW = by the way
GMAB = give me a break
KIT = keep in touch
LOL = laugh out loud (Also see “LOL,S” below)
OIC = oh i see
OMG = oh my god
PAW = parents are watching (Also see “PAW” below)
SU = shut up
SUP = whats up
TTYL = talk to you later
WFM = works for me
WTG = way to go

So…not to be outdone, I think we parents have a few abbreviations of our own that the younger generation is not aware of:

BBL = boring butt-licker
BISJ = boyfriend is stupid jerk
BICB = boyfriend is cheap bastard
GFB = go for broke
HL = hairy legs (boyfriends)
HLV = hairy legs visiting
HIV = hairy legs in vicinity
LOL,S = lots of luck, sucker
PAW = porcelain alter worship (toilet)
PUAW = pissing up a wall
PIW = pissing into wind
PHOW = pissing higher on wall
POS= pissing on shoes (older guys)
SB = sore back
TB = tired butt
TOT = tired of teens
TOTS = tired of teen sass
WC = water closet (toilet)
WR = waiting room (water closet)
WO = worn out

Oh, I think we could spend a few hours and come up with hundreds of acronyms that would just blow away the younger generation’s cutsy texting abbreviations, but they probably wouldn’t “get it.” Isn’t that what they like to say about us?
