HOW MANY SHIRTS DOES A GUY NEED?

HOW MANY SHIRTS DOES A GUY NEED?   I was reading a fellow blogger’s post about REDUCING expenses and thereby SAVING money. All of his hints were valid enough, in my opinion, but I commented on his post that he must be a bachelor. If he used to dine out 5 times a week and now limits himself to once every week or two, then he has written himself out of the DATING SCENE completely.

Without copying his ideas, I was thinking that in RETIREMENT I must have cut my expenses some, so I reviewed my bank statements and looked at how my lifestyle has changed since retirement a year ago.

Yes, I don’t have to pay daily parking fees anymore and I am not commuting to work every day, but I still pay for parking when I am downtown and I still find myself driving into town about twice times a week, and with the higher gas prices I am actually spending more. But I am spending less OVERALL, and I’ve been discovering some things I hadn’t thought of before.

My most recent revelation when it comes to saving money in retirement is CLOTHES! Wow, I never realized how many clothes I had acquired when I had to dress every day for work! I have two closets FULL (and I am a GUY!). I have the closets separated by season and keep the current stuff in the master bedroom closet. I decided to count the number of winter season shirts that I have available for the coming winter and WILL NOT EVEN REVEAL THE NUMBER. It is over fifty! These are long-sleeved, collared shirts. Some are over 15 years old! They are in good condition because they were only worn about three or four times per winter. They are still IN STYLE because I am a man and I say so. I am so glad that I never had to keep up with style the way women do.

So…anyway, I will probably never have to buy another long-sleeved shirt in this lifetime. So there! A big savings that I can actually count upon. I think.
